With many developments taking place on brownfield sites, the reality is many project owners are faced with contaminated land and groundwater issues. Given the public's interest regarding contamination and the impact this has on the health of the surrounding environment and local communities, up-to-date awareness of regulations (which are currently changing), how potential risks can be assessed and how risks can be mitigated, requires specialist knowledge and experience.

At Golder's recent Three Rs; Contaminated Land Seminar, attendees benefited from the collective experience of four specialists - whose experience spans over 80 years.

Graeme Miller, Principal Scientist and South Australian Environment Protection Authority (EPA) Accredited Site Contaminated Auditor, introduced delegates to the auditing process and regulatory framework including the imminent launch of the new NEPM guidelines.
Len Turczynowicz, Principal Risk Assessor, provided an overview of the risk assessment process. This was concluded with a discussion of risks to human health.
Jonathan Medd, Principal and Victorian EPA Accredited Environmental Auditor, impressed with an introduction to "Innovation in site characterisation - Cost effectively improving the conceptual understanding of contamination".
To continue with the theme of innovative, Rachel Brennan, Senior Environmental Engineer, wowed delegates with some emerging technologies - all of which had never been applied in Australia.

The seminar enabled Golder to showcase its expertise, with environmental, risk assessment, water, and civil design specialists attending to network with guests.
