REDMOND, WA.-Safe, efficient, and profitable development of shale natural gas resources depends on achieving a clear understanding of the role of natural fractures in shale gas production. Natural fracturing is critical to enhancing stimulation treatment design and optimizing well performance. Although every shale formation is somewhat different, there can be significant variations in natural fracture systems from one location to another within a given play area, with equally significant differences in production rates from one well to another.
