Golder Principal authors 2nd edition of textbook on groundwater control and construction dewatering

Aug 29, 2012

Martin Preene, a Principal of Golder Associates in the Leeds, UK office, has authored the second edition of ‘Groundwater Lowering in Construction: A Practical Guide to Dewatering' by Cashman and Preene. The textbook covers theory and practice for the investigation, design and application of groundwater control and dewatering systems for civil engineering and mining projects.

Replacing the first edition from 2001, the new edition has been extensively revised and updated and includes new chapters on groundwater cutoff walls, permanent dewatering systems and environmental impacts from groundwater control works. It contains practical guidance on dewatering by sump pumping, wellpoints, deep wells and eductor wells, detailed case histories of dewatering projects, design examples and extensive references.

Following the death of co-author Pat Cashman, who was an independent consultant, Martin completed the new edition of the book. Pat also had links with Golder - in the 1940s he was offered his first job by Hugh Golder at Soil Mechanics Ltd. and worked with Hugh Golder for several years. Pat's grandson, Alistair Cadden currently works as a Principal of Golder in Argentina.

The book is available from the publishers, CRC Press, at the link below:
